Father struggled to stop
Us from crying -
The infant us
He struggled, yet persisted
Until he saw a spark of smile
On our faces
Fanning this spark of smile
Into bursts of laughter
Father, gather your crowns
Father saw the release of our first nature's call
Hurriedly followed by
The second nature's call
Mother just took her bag off to work
And the release of the stench slapped his face
Yet, he cleaned us
Father, gather your crowns
Father tilted the land
With every muscle in him
With beads of sweats - the akwashɔŋtse of his skin
Just to feed us
Father, gather your crowns
Father persisted
Not resisting
But insisting
That his children will irresistibly
Be consistent in the
Pretext, context and content of their lives
Father, gather your crowns!
Father sought the best for us
Helping us aboard the train of education
A priceless investment which forever
Yields dividend
Father, gather your crowns
Father,we would be ignoramuses
If we fail to mentioned one good deed
Bringing us up in the training and instruction of the Lord
We shall not lord this to ourselves
Mankind will bear witness
Of this invaluable deed
Father, gather your crowns
Father, mankind belittle your significance
Your importance of parenting is undermined
We, your children, have gone through the
Mines of Man's mind
And it's evident
We dare not second their belief
Lest, we lose the fatherly blessings
Which you gracefully gave us
Father, gather your crowns
Father, what shall we say again?
Shall we speak against your gray beard
Which you use as a broom to gather wisdom?
Father, gather your crowns!

ReplyDeleteGreat piece King. Efforts of fathers in patenting has long been overlooked. We shall change that phase and see it pass away.
